saturday nine... come to my window

Come to My Window

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. We encourage you to visit other participants posts and leave a comment. Because we don't have any rules, it is your choice. We hate rules. We love memes, however, and here is today's meme!

Melissa Etheridge is a breast cancer survivor and October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Please spread the word about early detection.

1) This song is about a woman passionate about love and willing to pursue it, no matter what "they say." Are you fearless when it comes to public opinion? Or do you worry about what "they" think of you?
In the past, I have always been reserved, especially around my family to whom I never had the 'right' opinion. In recent years, things have changed. Really Changed. I am different. I don't hold back and I don't take shit. My family and I meet every Saturday morning for breakfast, and when I would usually sit back, worried about what they would say or thing, things have changed. I like myself better this way. It actually happened in June, when I turned 55. From that day I decided that I really didn't give a shit what others had to say about my decisions. And have really stood by that decision.
 2) Melissa's father was a high school teacher. Tell us about a teacher who had an impact on you.Mrs. Jewel. 7-8 & 9th grade Home Ec Teacher. Her daughter and I were best friends and she mentored me in the fine art of baking. She knew I had a talent and would let me come and bake for school events in the home ec room after school, and when her and her 5 kids were baking, they always asked me to join them. Another, Miss Krimmer. She was about 573 years old and taught mathematics at Volney Rogers Jr High. When I started Volney, I was bald from pneumonia and had to wear what my mom selected for me... which were knit outfits. 7 of them, in different colors, and saddle shoes. My life was hell, to say the least. I was new to the west side, I knew only my neighbor that convinced me not to wear my wig and everyone laughed at me. She called me in after school one day and I was so afraid because she had that 'mean' reputation. When I went in, she sat me down next to her and told me about the Drama Club, and how I would really enjoy being part of that. So I went and signed up to be part of 'You're A Good Man Charlie Brown', and they all accepted me and from then on, for the 3 years I was at VRJH, I had friends and things to do. She really knew who would take me in.
3) Melissa won a Grammy for this song. If you won a major award, where would you display it?
More than likely, I wouldn't.
4) Which TV game show do you think you'd do better on -- The Price Is Right or Wheel of Fortune?

ew.
 5) Are you neat and organized?
I'm going to have to tell you, no.
6) When was the last time you went more than a day without washing your hair?
When I was sick at the beginning of summer. Probably 3 days!!!
7) When you eat Chinese food, do you use chopsticks or a fork?

I would NEVER put Chinese food in my mouth. EVER.
 8) Are you a good cook?
Oh yes!! In fact last night, I roasted some beautiful Roma tomatoes, then I made some mac and cheese. Right before I put the cheese and crumbs on top of the mac and cheese to bake, I put in the roasted tomatoes. It was out of this world!
9) We're having a party in your honor! Would you prefer a costume party, a bowling party or a pool party?
Lets go BOWLING!!! as long as I don't have to wear shoes ;)

  1. Mac and cheese has been on my mind lately. I had some decent m/c the other night and it got me remembering the loaf in of homemade m/c my friends made for me when I was recuperating from surgery a few years ago. Either it was the best m/c ever, or it seemed that way because of the meds, but it actually won a place in my heart. The crumbs are key, aren't they?

    1. My family and I used to go to The House of China as a treat every once in awhile. Once, my uncle came in from NYC and we took him there. During dinner he whispered to me that the Chinese use CAT and DOG as their chicken. That was the last time I ever ate it!!! I was around 10
